Conservation and restoration at the Archaeological Parks of Paestum and Velia form an essential part of a wider scientific initiative, dedicated to the study, preservation, and enhancement of a cultural heritage of extraordinary value—ensuring it is passed on to future generations.
Restoration work is carried out both on site, within the archaeological areas, and in specialised laboratories. Each intervention is guided by careful planning and a preventative approach, supported by scientific research and interdisciplinary collaboration. The Parks make use of advanced tools for analysis, monitoring, and data management—such as the detection system at the Temple of Neptune and the HERA system, a GIS-based platform designed to manage archaeological heritage more effectively.
All work is underpinned by thorough archival research and detailed documentation. In keeping with professional standards, the Parks also explore the use of new materials and techniques, aiming to reduce risk for those involved and minimise environmental impact.
